Oboe Lessons with Tamsin Johnston
Principal Oboe of the Regina Symphony Orchestra, Tamsin Lorraine Johnston’s performance career has taken her all over Canada and the United States. Ms. Johnston has also held the position of Principal Oboe with the Stratford and Sudbury Symphony Orchestras, and was a member of Blythwood Winds, a Toronto-based Woodwind Quintet, as well as having had the opportunity to perform with ensembles such as the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra, the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, and the Ontario Philharmonic.
In 2008, Ms. Johnston graduated with a Master of Music in Woodwind Performance from Boston University, where she studied with Laura Ahlbeck and Robert Sheena. Her education with Mr. Sheena continued at The Boston Conservatory, where she completed a Graduate Performance Diploma in 2011. While in Boston, Ms. Johnston performed with ensembles including Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, The Orchestra of Indian Hill, the New Bedford Symphony, the Boston Philharmonic, and Xanthos New Music Ensemble.
Ms. Johnston was a part of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada during the summers of 2004, 2005 and 2006, the Pierre Monteux School orchestra in 2008 and 2009, and participated in the Scotia Festival of Music in 2009. In addition, she was a member of L'Orchestre de la Francophonie in 2010 and 2011. In 2006, Ms. Johnston completed her Bachelor of Music Performance at the University of Toronto under the tutelage of Richard Dorsey during which time she was a featured soloist with Mooredale Concerts. Originally from Ottawa, Ms. Johnston attended Canterbury High School for music, participated in the Ottawa Youth Orchestra, and studied privately with Francine Schutzman.

Who should sing with Tamsin?
Age of Student: Ages 10 and up
Skill levels: Tamsin prefers to teach students with some experience on another instrument and who can already read music
Genres: Classical
Expectations: Students are not required to work towards exams, but are required to participate in recitals and to participate in music festivals. Students are expected to practice the same length of time as their lesson, every day.
Supplies Required: An oboe, a copy of Kenneth Gekeler Method for Oboe vol. 1 and/or vol.2, and a swab specifically for cleaning oboes.
Average Lesson Length: 30, 45, 60 minutes
30-Minute Lesson Rate: $30 * Private Lessons range from $28.50-35.50 and are based on previous education and experience.
