Eric Timperman has served as Principal Bass of the Regina Symphony Orchestra since 2023, following a four-year tenure with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra as a section bassist. Other orchestral appointments include Acting Principal Bass of the Des Moines Metro Opera and Assistant Principal Bass of the Carmel Symphony Orchestra in the United States. His guest work includes appearances with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra and A Far Cry, a Grammy-nominated string ensemble based in Boston, Massachusetts.

Eric has served on the faculty of the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts, the Rosamunde Summer Music Academy, and the Douglas Kuhl School of Music.

He has also worked in classrooms as a teaching artist with Sistema Winnipeg and Yale’s Music in Schools initiative. As a researcher, he has been published in the academic journal Musicae Scientiae, presented at the National Association for Music Education’s Biennial Research Conference, and featured on the Bulletproof Musician blog.

He holds a BMus and BA from Indiana University and an MMus from Yale University. When not playing or teaching music, Eric is usually drinking coffee and doing crossword puzzles with his wife Kristy and their cat, Peanut.

Expectations: Students are encouraged to participate in recitals, exams, music festivals and masterclasses. Students are expected to practice everyday.
