Ages: 4-8

Join our Introduction to Violin Classes to show your child the wonders of violin! Since violins can be sized down for little hands and little bodies, children can start learning string instruments as young as 3 years old, though most are ready by age 4. In this class, you and your child will learn more about the string family of instruments, parts of the violin, basic music theory, and even get a chance to play on violins towards the end of the session. An adult caregiver must be in attendance with your child for the duration of the class.

This class is also available as a significantly shortened 2 hour family workshop where we introduce both violin and cello: Introduction to Strings. We recommend taking this Introduction to Violin course over the workshop if you want to spend more time learning just about the violin. Your child will also have more time in this course to expand on music theory basics and other learning that will prepare them for Private Lessons. If you are interested in cello, please go to our Youth String Program - Cello page.

Classes for 2025-26 are led by violin/viola student-teacher Katherine Achtzehner.

Introduction to Violin classes are taught once each term in the Fall and Winter. Choose the date that works best for your family by clicking on the "+" plus sign to discover the days and times available. We recommend only registering for this class once as the content is the same each session. Once you finish the class, if your child loves the violin, your family should be ready to join the awesome teachers in our Music - Private Lessons studios!
