Supporting Refugee and Newcomer Children Youth and Families

Designed for teachers, administrators and those who work with our youth, this course can be applied to the Trauma-Informed/Sensitive Pedagogies and Practices Microcertificate. The Intro to Trauma & Trauma-Informed Sensitive Practices course should be taken first if you are working toward the Microcertificate.

While much research has been done on immigrant and refugee children and youth in Canada, few studies focus directly on their voices and understandings, particularly in relation to their experiences of or with trauma.

Seek to support your growing understanding on how trauma affects immigrant and refugee families, children and youth, especially the children and youth’s life-making in schools.

Includes access to current research and practical approaches to make kin with newcomer and local children and youth and teachers’ flourishing at school.

Class 1: Relationship Building with Newcomer(s) (Children and Youth)

Class 2: Safety and Culturally Responsive Practices

Class 3: So What? Now What?

Class 4: Time and Trauma
