CTRC2 - Supporting Refugee and Newcomer Children Youth and Families
While much research has been done on immigrant and refugee children and youth in Canada, few studies focus directly on their voices and understandings, particularly in relation to their experiences of/with trauma.
This badge seeks to support the participants’ growing understanding on how trauma affects the immigrant and refugee families, children, and youth, especially the children and youth’s life-making in schools. The badge provides participants with access to current research and practical approaches to make kin with newcomer and local children and youth and teachers’ flourishing at school.
Learning Outcomes:
This course begins with understanding and discussion of relationship building with newcomer children and youth, to trauma-sensitive approaches in relation to safety and culturally responsive practices, and ends with participants’ reflections on trauma-sensitive pedagogies for newcomer children and youth at school.
