CDANC - Contemporary Dance
Ages 16+
Contemporary Dance draws on all the vital elements that go into the training of a dancer. Taught by dancer and choreographer, Karen Rose, it will build a strong dancer’s body, encompassing flexibility, strength, pilates, yoga, cardio, and the techniques of ballet, as well as, influences from dancers/choreographers Martha Graham and José Limón. It will focus on retraining the way we see and use our bodies, developing good alignment, posture, and core strength, whilst integrating grace, confidence, and presence.
Everyone is welcome! Dancers with no prior experience or those with experience are both encouraged to join.
There is no performance requirement in our Contemporary Dance program. Participants may participate in a performance only if all dancers are comfortable and/or interested. Just come to explore your body and how it can move without the pressure of a final performance!
You are not required to purchase any specialty costumes or dancewear as part of this course. Any clothing that allows for a free range of movement is perfect! We primarily dance barefoot.
