**This course is for violin students in at least their second year or higher of the Youth Strings program. If you are new to the group programs or your child is a cello player, go to the Conservatory Youth Strings Program - Violin and Cello 1st Year or Higher Class to register.**

The Conservatory Youth Strings Program (formerly Child/Parent Strings) offers the best in early string instruction under the leadership of instructors in our String Studios.

Running as a supplement to Music - Private Lessons in violin or cello, children start with one-on-one lessons then move into the group program when you are set-up with your instrument. Violin/Cello Group classes meet once a week encouraging polishing performance pieces, reviewing repertoire, and building community.

This is a family program, which means an adult (ex: parent, grandparent, or other adult caregiver) attends lessons and classes with your child. Family learning is the key to a successful start in learning violin or cello! You also don't need to know violin or cello before joining the programs - you will learn along with your child.

On the first day of class, Tuesday, September 12 all classes will meet together from 5:15-6:00pm for our Youth Strings Program Family Meeting & Open House to go over expectations for the year and introductions to instructors. After that, you will be assigned to your instructor and given a start time for the year at 5:15pm with one of two teachers.

This course is for:

  • 2nd year or higher violin students led by Rudy Sternadel and Jonathan Ward (ages 4-9) - meeting in either CB 108 or 110 from 5:15-6:15pm.

This course includes weekly 30 minutes of group class with the above teacher and 30 minutes of combined musicianship (both 2nd year groups together) with September Russell. All 2nd year violin students register in the same course and will be split up with either Rudy or Jonathan based on their playing level.

Once your child graduates out of this program they join the Conservatory Youth String Orchestra. Ask your instructor if the Conservatory Youth String Orchestra or the Youth Strings Program is right for them.

It is recommend your child registers for Music - Private Lessons at the Conservatory of Performing Arts to be involved in this program, as our instructors follow the same curriculum in their Private Lesson studios connected to this group class. You can register in Private Lessons at anytime of the year.

Not sure if your child is interested in violin or cello? Try out a weekend Introduction to Strings Workshop to learn about both instruments before you make a choice.
